THE VENUE
The Real Club de Tenis has a lot of history and tradition in San Sebastián, it's a symbol of the city. But why San Sebastián, why this venue for a tournament like this?
San Sebastián is a historic club. We came here a couple years ago, we visited the club, organized a tournament a little bit smaller, and saw where the club was located, which I think is a spectacular area that very few clubs in the world have the privilege of being in. We thought that it was the ideal club to organize a tournament of this kind.
TE ROLE OF WOMEN'S SPORT
We are experiencing a rise in women's sport, it is gaining more visibility. What do you think that it brings on and off court?
I think that it was like an outstanding debt that society had with women’s sport and with women in general. Women had always had to work a little bit harder while men’s sport had more impact. I believe that there was an evolution in the last ten years, I lived it myself at the London Olympics, when the Spanish delegation won, I believe it was 15 medals, of which 13 were won by women. I think that this moment was a turning point where we really realized as a society, that women ‘s sport was very powerful.
INSPIRATION AND ROLE MODELS
Is there any woman in sport —or outside of it— who particularly inspired you?
Our mothers are always role models for us. For me especially, in my time, seeing how my mother managed a household with three children. My father worked and she had to take care of us all the time. And how she used to make her little calculations to be able to support a family with three children.
AUTHENTICITY AND STYLE
At INDI&COLD, we believe that every woman should bring out her best self, with a unique style. In your case, how would you define your style on and off the court?
I am a woman who likes to feel comfortable, free, trying to follow fashion, but always in accordance with my own personality.
LOOKING AHEAD
If you close your eyes and think about the International Open in 5 or 10 years… How do you imagine it?
Every project has difficult beginnings. We know that, if we get involved, it must be with a long-term vision, knowing that the first years are tough, but we believe that San Sebastián is a place, as I say, where you can remain for many years. And that is our intention.
