Exploring Italy Through Valentina’s Eyes: A Traveller’s Tale

In this interview, we sit down with Valentina Barabuffi, a passionate traveller, tourism marketing professional, and cultural events organizer. Hailing from the charming town of Cortona, she takes us on a journey through her life, motivations, and the deep connection she shares with Italy.

PERSONAL STORY AND MOTIVATION

Hello, Valentina! Can you share a bit about yourself and what inspired your love for travel?

Hello! I’m Valentina, and I come from the picturesque village of Cortona in the Tuscan countryside. Growing up in a place later made famous by “Under the Tuscan Sun” gave me a profound appreciation for beauty and culture. My work in tourism marketing and my love for exploration culminated in the desire to share my adventures on Instagram.

I’ve always loved the research behind each journey; it’s like a prelude to the actual trip. Discovering new places ignites my creativity. Combining this with my love for photography led to the creation of a travel diary on my Instagram profile.

What fuels your passion for travel?

LIVING IN FLORENCE

Florence seems to hold a special place in your heart. What made you fall in love with the city, and how has it influenced your lifestyle?

Florence, known as the cradle of the Renaissance, captured my heart when I moved here for study and work. It’s like living in an open-air museum. The city’s small size, combined with its charm and cultural richness, makes it perfect for raising my child. I’ve developed habits that bring me joy, like visiting the market on Saturdays and having breakfast outdoors in Sant’Ambrogio.

How has Florence influenced your sense of style?

The artistic atmosphere of Florence has influenced my style. I lean towards light colours and natural fabrics. Whether it’s a pair of jeans and a basic T-shirt or a flowing dress, comfort and character define my choices.

CONNECTION TO ITALIAN CULTURE

As an Italian, how do you feel deeply connected to Italy's rich culture and traditions?

Italy’s immense history, combined with the vibrant culinary scene and traditional craftsmanship, weaves a rich tapestry. Every experience, from local markets to historic workshops, contributes to a profound connection with Italian society.

Beyond historic monuments, Italy’s culinary traditions and craftsmanship captivate me. The dedication of artisans passing down their ‘savoir faire’ through generations is incredibly inspiring.

TO SUM UP

If you could travel back in time and visit any place in Italy's history, where would you go and why?

A special memory is from Alicudi, a small island in the Aeolian Islands. The moonlit nights, sitting on the terrace with my family, gazing at the starry sky; it’s a magical moment capturing the essence of the journey.

Without a doubt, I’d choose Florence during the Renaissance. The artistic and cultural fervour of that period is truly fascinating.
